People are always doubting whether the Silk pillowcases they buy are real silk or silky satin fabric, it is not easy for untrained people to distinguish silk, satin, or polyester fabric.

There are several ways to tell the difference of real silk and artifical silk:

1. Do a Touch test. This is a quick on-the-spot test, especially before buying anything made of silk. The idea is to rub the silk with your hand. If it feels warm when rubbed, then it's real. For artificial or synthetic silk, it's impossible to feel warmth when rubbed.

2. Perform a Wedding Ring Test.  If the silk you're planning to buy isn't very heavy, then this test is perfect! Real silk can easily slip through a wedding ring because silk is naturally soft, supple, and smooth. On the other hand, synthetic silk will wrinkle and won't stretch.

3. Consider the price. Of course, real silk is always much more expensive than synthetic silk. Sometimes, synthetic silk can be priced much higher and look like silk to untrained eyes, but in most cases, a low price indicates that it's fake.

4. Examine the Lustre of the material. Silk is especially renowned for its sheen. The sheen is often a result of the combination of threads giving the material a particular luster. The surface color appears to change with variations in the angle of light. However, no matter the angle of light, synthetic silk will emit a white sheen.

The above ways are easy to test without destroying the silk fabric, and Comfytouch tested the bellow ways which are suitable and effective for wholesalers or big retailers who want to distribute the real silk:

1. See if you can perform a Burn Test. This may be the best and most definitive test for finding real silk. You can take a few threads from the material and then burn them with a flame. Real silk will have the smell of burning hair when it burns. When you burn the edge of real silk fabric, the flame is invisible, and once the flame disappears, it stops burning. The resulting ashes are black, brittle, and crumble to powder when pinched with fingers. Synthetic silk, on the other hand, behaves exactly the opposite. It burns with flame and has a plastic smell. It does not produce ashes. Needless to say, due to its inherent danger, you may need to exercise caution when performing this step.

2. If you really need to know, consider a Chemical Test. Real silk will dissolve in bleach, while fake silk will not.
